The Missio Dei Network
The Missio Dei Network exists to provide theological and contextual
materials and to foster learning communities that encourage, form and
equip mission leaders for missiological bridge-building in the 21st century.
Discipleship Formation
Jesus said to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to
observe all things that I have commanded you."
The word "disciple" is used 260 times in the New Testament and a proper
understanding of this word is vital and necessary for the Church if we are to
live out our calling of "making disciples" through conversion and maturation in
the Christian faith.
Jesus also, in these parting words given at His ascension, tells His disciples of
every age that they are to be taught everything that He has commanded so
that they may live a life that is pleasing in His sight (coram Deo) and to live a
life that is meaningful in their relationships with others (coram hominibus),
both believers and those who have yet to believe.
Culture Learning
This mission of "making disciples" is to take place among the peoples of the
earth. If His people are to communicate His Law and Gospel properly among
the peoples of the earth, they must understand the unique environments into
which His life-giving Word must be sown.
Missiological Bridge-Building
The 21st century Church follows in a long succession of bridge-builders since
throughout the history of the Church Christians have tried to relate the Biblical
message of God's judgment and grace to their particular cultures. In the
construction of these missiological bridges God's people, as instruments of the
living God, have been called and enlightened by the Holy Spirit to relate God's
unchanging Word to our ever-changing world.
The missionary task is to faithfully translate the Word of God into modern
language and thought categories and to make it present in our day. And yet, if
we are to build bridges into the real world, we have to take seriously both the
Biblical text and the contemporary scene. It is only then that we shall discern
the connections between them and be able to speak the divine Word to the
human situation with any degree of sensitivity and accuracy.
Mission Outposts
God would have all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth
about Jesus Christ as the world's only Savior. In order that the peoples of the
earth may know of His salvation, and what is in the heart of God, God sends
His people into their evangelistic and mission labors. Fundamental to these
labors is the Biblical understanding that every congregation is a mission
outpost to all the unbelievers who are...
geographically near (Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria)
geographically far (to the ends of the earth)
culturally near (Jerusalem and Judea)
culturally far (Samaria and to the ends of the earth)
